Why don't you make progress studying English?

  Sunday, 07/07/24. 05:08

There are many reasons why you might feel like you're not making progress in learning English. Here are some common causes and ways to address them:

  1. Lack of clear goals:

    • Cause: You haven't set specific, clear, and measurable goals.
    • Solution: Define specific goals (e.g., learn 20 new words each week, complete an online course in 3 months) and track your progress.
  2. No study plan:

    • Cause: You study randomly without a specific schedule.
    • Solution: Create a detailed study plan that includes daily or weekly study time and content.
  3. Lack of persistence:

    • Cause: You give up easily when you encounter difficulties or don’t see immediate results.
    • Solution: Be persistent and don’t give up. Accept that learning a language is a long-term process and it takes time to see results.
  4. Insufficient practice:

    • Cause: You only study theory without enough practice.
    • Solution: Practice English daily through activities like talking with friends, writing a journal, listening, and reading in English.
  5. Lack of English environment:

    • Cause: You don’t have opportunities to use English in daily life.
    • Solution: Create an English environment for yourself by joining English clubs, communicating with English speakers, or using English learning apps.
  6. Ineffective learning methods:

    • Cause: You don’t use learning methods that suit you.
    • Solution: Try different learning methods such as learning through songs, movies, mobile apps, or group study to find the most suitable method.
  7. Lack of feedback and adjustment:

    • Cause: You don’t receive feedback to know if you are doing it right or wrong.
    • Solution: Seek feedback from teachers, friends, or use apps that provide automatic feedback to improve.
  8. Not practicing comprehensive skills:

    • Cause: You focus only on one skill (e.g., vocabulary) and neglect other skills (listening, speaking, reading, writing).
    • Solution: Ensure you practice all English skills in a balanced way.
  9. Lack of confidence in using English:

    • Cause: You are afraid of making mistakes and hesitant to communicate in English.
    • Solution: Be more confident and accept that making mistakes is part of the learning process. Each mistake is a learning opportunity.
  10. Not creating a learning habit:

    • Cause: You do not study English regularly and do not make it a daily habit.
    • Solution: Make learning English a part of your daily routine, for example, spend 15-30 minutes each day studying English.
